North Toronto Aquatic Club (NTAC)

The North Toronto Aquatic Club (NTAC), founded in 1968, is a not-for-profit community swim club that offers swimming lessons and Lifesaving courses for children, youth and adults.
All of our classes are taught by certified instructors and run Monday to Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Classes are held at the pool at Glenview Senior Public School near Lawrence Avenue and Avenue Road.

About Us

North Toronto Aquatic Club

The North Toronto Aquatic Club was founded in 1968, by a group of neighbourhood parents who recognized the potential for community use of the Glenview Senior Public School pool outside of school hours. From a modest beginning of 85 swimmers we now boast a membership of over 400 swimmers per year. Classes are still held at the Glenview pool at 401 Rosewell Ave.

During the school year, swim classes for ages 3 to adult are held during our regular 8 month session. We also offer a spring mini session. Lifesaving and First-Aid courses are also offered several times throughout the year. Classes are not held during the summer.

Our volunteer Board of Directors is comprised of local parents dedicated to continuing and enhancing the long tradition of fine programming here at NTAC. They are supported by the Executive Director and Aquatic Director. Our Aquatic Director is on deck during most classes and teaches some Adult classes. Our Aquatic Staff consists of over 30 high school and university students, most of them having risen through the levels at NTAC. All staff are trained and certified.

Meet the Team

Aquatic Director

Stephen Boddy began his swimming career at North Toronto Aquatic Club (NTAC) as a swimmer in 1968, in the year the club was founded.  At age 16, Stephen was hired as a lifeguard at NTAC in 1976 then became the Aquatic Director, a role he has been in ever since. Over Stephen’s 40 year career with NTAC, he has taught, mentored and influenced many children and young adults.

Executive Director

Laura Ziliotto has worked with community-based programs for children and youth for over 25 years as a researcher, facilitator and consultant. She has joined NTAC as the Executive Director due to her passion for quality community-based programming and her strong belief in the importance of swim and water safety skills. Laura began swimming at NTAC at age 3 and went on to be a lifeguard, swim instructor and canoe tripper at multiple camps. Her four children have also attended NTAC's swimming and Lifesaving programs.

Why Choose NTAC?

Not-for-profit Organization

NTAC is a not-for-profit organization which allows us to keep our fees at a reasonable cost. Our volunteer Board of Directors is supported by our Executive Director and Aquatic Director.

Continuous Evaluations

Swimmers are evaluated on an ongoing basis and are moved to the next level when they have met the necessary skills and when spots are available. While reports cards are completed in December in April, swimmers can move up levels throughout the year.

Small Community Feel

NTAC is based out of only one pool giving the club a small boutique feel. The Aquatic Director gets to know the families and the Executive Director is available to answer questions and assist with registrations and ongoing questions.

Safe and Supportive Environment

All our courses are taught by certified instructors who are continuously being trained and evaluated. Parents are able to view the lessons from the pool gallery and assist in the changerooms.

FAQ

Important details and frequently asked questions.

What is the age requirement for NTAC?

Children must be 3 years old before the first swimming lesson. Proof of age is required for all 3 year olds.

Are there make-up classes or refunds if we miss a class?

Policies (Attendance, Pool Closures, Refunds)

No Make-Up Classes: If you or your child miss a class for any reason (sickness, injury, school event, religious holiday, sports event, family trip, etc.) there will be no make-up class, refund or credit given. While it can be disappointing and frustrating to miss classes, it happens to everyone and it is beyond our capacity to try to schedule, permit, staff and finance make-up classes throughout the year for our over 600 swimmers.

Pool Closures: If the pool is closed due to pool maintenance or for safety reasons your lessons will be cancelled. Emails will be sent to parents as soon as we know the pool is closed. These cancelled classes will be made up at the end of the swimming year by adding on additional classes. Pool closures are out of our control and do happen so please expect a cancellation or two with classes added on in the spring.

Snow Days: Beginning with the 2026/27 season, lessons cancelled due to severe weather or snow-related pool closures will not be made up. Unlike pool maintenance closures, we are unable to add unlimited classes to the schedule due to permit limitations.

Refunds:  If your schedules change and you need to cancel your registrations, please let me know ASAP at info@ntac.ca. Withdrawals requested before the first class will receive a refund less a $25 administration fee.

How do I register and pay?

All registrations are submitted and paid for on-line. The first step is to set up a family profile and add each child as a "swimmer". Please follow the link to Powerup Sports to register. If the classes you are interested in are full, please look for other possible days or times that work for you. Otherwise you may join the waitlist. The system does NOT charge your credit card to be placed on the waitlist. It will ask for payment info because if a spot opens we can add your child to the class (after confirming with you that you still want the spot) and it will then process the payment. Watch this video for assistance on how to create your family profile.

How much do classes cost?
  • Child/Youth Group Lessons Level 00-13 = $485

  • Intro to Competitive = $500

  • Adult Beginner (Tues) = $485

  • Masters/Tri and Intro to Masters Tri = $500

  • Bronze Star = $250

  • Bronze Medallion = $400

  • Bronze Cross = $400

  • NL = $500

What and when is a Water Test?

All children, new to our Child and Youth Group Lessons must have a Water Test so that we may place them in the most appropriate level. We schedule the Water Test for September, before our season starts. At the Water Test, we confirm the level and the time of the lesson. It also gives parents a chance to see our pool, and to meet our Aquatic Supervisor and a few of our instructors. Teens may contact the club and book a Water Test to determine if they are ready for Lifesaving Courses.

How do I get to the pool?

Glenview Senior Public School
401 Rosewell Avenue (East of Avenue Road and south of Lawrence Avenue)

The entrance to the pool is from the lowest level playing field which is visible from the street.  Walk down the stairs, ramp or grass to the lowest level and enter the double doors with windows, opposite the basketball nets.  Above the doors there is a yellow square with the number ‘2’ on it and a ‘Pool’ sign.

Change rooms: The change rooms are straight ahead when you enter. The first change room is the girls and the second is the boys.  Children aged 6 and under may accompany a parent into the change room appropriate for the parent i.e. – no mothers in the boys change room.  From the change room, enter the pool through the office, not the showers.

Parking: You may park in the teachers’ parking lot to the north of the school or on the street, but please watch the parking signs.

What happens if the pool is closed?

What do we do if we know we are going to be away?

If you or your child is in a group lesson, there is no need to let us know of the absence.

If you are in a private lesson it would be curteous if you could email info@ntac.ca so the instructor can be notified.

There are no refunds, credits or make-up classes given if you miss classes for any reason.

Can we go into the changerooms with our children?

Parents are allowed in the pool change rooms to assist their children. Children under 7 may accompany a parent into the change room appropriate for the parent i.e. – no mothers in the boys change room.  From the change room, enter the office, not the showers.  Children over 6 years must only use gender appropriate change rooms.
